Elena is the creator and designer at Elena Ruth Landscape Design. She grew up in the desert town of Yuma, Arizona where her family homesteaded over 100 years ago. As a teen she moved to Kansas and it was there that her interest in landscape design developed. Her mother and step-father would spend all of their free time working on the landscape of their country home creating the most stunning perennial displays. She had always loved art and design so realizing that she could turn peoples’ yards into living art drew her into Landscape Design.
After high school she enrolled at Kansas State University where she earned her B.S. in Horticulture. After graduating she moved back to Yuma where her career as a junior designer/site supervisor began. This job was her most influential. This is where she learned how to see where problems could develop, and how to stop them before they ever started. She worked directly under the owner and accumulated the knowledge that only comes from experience. After five years there she landed a position as Lead Landscape Designer for a development company.
During the Recession of 2008, when construction came to a screeching halt, she was forced to find new work. In 2013 her husband’s job took them to the historic river town of New Bern, North Carolina where she found a design job with a local landscape company. She spent nearly four years with them before she left to start the rest of her family. She now has two beautiful little girls who are her first priority.
Although she had stopped working so she could be with them full time, clients kept requesting her design services, so Elena Ruth Landscape Design was born. Elena now works from home designing landscapes for her clients on the East Coast, the West Coast, and anywhere in between.
